Meet Nick

I love helping to put people in a position to pursue their dreams, whether that be financially, personally, or professionally. That is why I chose to be a wealth advisor. As I gained work experience in other industries, I wanted to find out what drove me to do the work I did and work the hours I put in. What I learned is that I feel the most rewarded when I am able to help someone do something they want to do on their terms.

I graduated from the University of Missouri in 2006. I became a Financial Advisor in 2013 and earned the AIF® (Accredited Investment Fiduciary) designation in 2015.

Professionally, mine and my father’s passion has always been financial planning, so in October of 2018 we founded Gertsema Wealth Advisors in St. Joseph, MO. In 2020, to provide more value to our clients, I was able to make a commitment to further my education and earned the Retirement Income Certified Professional (RICP®), Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®), and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER (CFP®) designations.

When I’m not at work, I’m more than likely spending time with my wife, five kids, and two rescue dogs. We love to spend time outside at our home near Savannah, MO, or camping. I love to smoke meat and you can usually find me by following the smell of good BBQ. You can find pictures of my delicious creations on Twitter. I have an obsession with music and plan on playing bass in a cover band for my retirement. We love sports and watching our KC Chiefs, KC Royals, and Mizzou Tigers.
